Our Bamey’s Fam Shared All the Feels

As the most authentic Nepalese #Nepalese restaurant in Bangalore, we’re always looking to connect more with our loyal Bamey’s fam. So we recently turned to Instagram to get the inside scoop on what keeps customers coming back for more #nepali food. Here’s what they had to say:

We asked our customer on their favourite food from the menu?

Shrissi Ghimire said she can leave everything for the jhol chicken momo – she’s there almost every week to get her fix! Unsurprisingly, #momos were a huge hit.

Both chicken and veggie momos got major love. But #thali plates and comfort curries like laphing stew also topped the charts. Shrissi Ghimire said she comes back for the jhol chicken momo.

Many said it’s the delicious and authentic Nepalese cuisine. But others mentioned feeling right at home in our warm, welcoming space. And of course, the drinks and buzzing atmosphere at our gastro bar are always a big draw!

What Brings You Back to Bamey’s?

Kaviyan said the food – especially those chicken wings – is what gets him back every time. Many said it’s the delicious and authentic Nepalese cuisine.

And of course, the drinks & cultural dance and buzzing atmosphere at our gastro bar are always a big draw!

Favourite memories at Bamey’s?

When we asked Aakash about his favorite memory at Bamey’s, he laughed recalling the time he took on the infamous bhoot momo challenge. “I thought I was a big shot and could handle the spicy momos no problem,” Aakash said.

But those bhoot momos packed quite a punch! Aakash struggled through the whole plate but paid for it dearly afterward. “I couldn’t eat anything spicy for like a month after that.

My mouth was on fire!”, he added. From birthday celebrations to date nights, people shared all the special moments made even better at Bamey’s.

Bamey’s Gastro or Restro Cafe?

The votes were split on whether we’re more of a gastro bar or restro cafe. Many enjoy sipping craft drinks surrounded by our lively bar scene. Others prefer the cozy intimacy of the restaurant.

Amit had a unique perspective on why we’ll always be his favorite restro. “It was three years ago on a busy Saturday night at Bamey’s. I knew I wanted to propose to Kamal that evening, but I was so nervous!”. After finishing their chicken tikka plates, Amit got down on one knee right there in their corner booth. “Much to my relief, she said yes! We’ve been coming back ever since to celebrate our anniversary. This place will always hold a special place in my heart,” Amit reminisced.

With memories like that made within these walls, it’s clear Bamey’s is more than just a place to eat and drink – it’s a place where lives unfold and love stories begin. Restro it is!

Dream Menu Item?

Everyone seemed to agree—a Momo platter with assorted momo, choila and more would be an instant hit. Thakali said their dream item would be Ashmita.

Connecting with our loyal customers was such a treat. We know how much you all love Bamey’s, but getting to know these personal memories and thoughts was really special. It means so much to be part of your meaningful moments.

We look forward to making more great food and traditions to bring you all back again and again. Thanks for being the best fam ever!

A Day in the Life of Bobby: The Heartbeat of Bamey’s

Bobby has been an integral part of Bamey’s since the very beginning, starting as a steward and working his way up to a key member of the management team.

We’re always so grateful for his passion and dedication, so we decided to spend the day shadowing Bobby to get a glimpse of what makes him the heartbeat of our restaurant.

We did a fun QnA with Mr. Bobby – See what he has to say?

Here is the interview with Bobby answering the questions:

Why did you join Bamey’s Restro Cafe?

Bobby: I had just moved to the city and was looking for work when I heard Nikhil was opening a new restaurant. His passion for food and people really inspired me. I wanted to be a part of building something special from the ground up.

What made you stay here for 10 years?

The family atmosphere is what kept me here. Nikhil, the staff, and our customers feel more like friends and family than coworkers at this point. I truly believe in Bamey’s mission of bringing people together over great food.

What is your favorite part of working here?

Bobby: I love the energy of a busy service and seeing all the happy faces of customers enjoying their meals. It makes all the hard work worthwhile. I also really enjoy mentoring new hires and helping the team grow. Also I can talk in Nepali – All day long.

Did your life change at Bamey’s?

Bobby: Absolutely. Bamey’s gave me a career I’m passionate about as well as my closest friends. I’ve grown so much both personally and professionally. Nikhil also gave me chances to take on more responsibility over the years.

How do you feel about Nikhil?

Bobby: Nikhil is like a brother to me. I have so much respect for his vision, work ethic, and leadership. He really fights to keep this place like a family. I’ll be forever grateful for the opportunities he’s given me.

Do you have a favorite food at Bamey’s?

Bobby: It’s hard to pick just one! But I always look forward to trying Nikhil’s new twists on classics. The Local Nepali Thakali Thali is definitely up there.

How do you want to see Bamey’s after 5 years?

Bobby: In 5 years I hope we’ve expanded to a few more locations while keeping our core values. Most of all, I want Bamey’s to still be the warm, welcoming community hub that brings people together.

It’s clear why Bobby has been such an integral part of Bamey’s success – his leadership, work ethic and caring nature are what define the heart and soul of this place.

Wherever the next five years may lead, one thing is for certain: with Bobby at the helm, Bamey’s future looks bright. His dedication will surely help take the restaurant from strength to strength in serving their mission.

His passion is inspiring, and it’s easy to see why he’s considered the heartbeat of Bamey’s.

Why Nikhil Started Bamey’s?

Nikhil Agarwal was born and brought up in Kathmandu, Nepal. He had always been passionate about Nepali food and culture from a young age.

But when Nikhil moved to Bangalore to study at Jain University, he often found himself teased by friends who would call him “Bamey” as a nickname.

It bothered Nikhil that most people in the city only saw Nepali cuisine as being limited to momo. He knew there was so much more – from the diverse dishes across different regions of Nepal to the unique ingredients rarely found outside the Himalayan country.

After graduating from Jain University in 2014, Nikhil was determined to introduce Bengaluru to the real flavors of Nepal. That’s how the idea for “Bamey’s Restro” was born. His goal was simple – to keep Nepal’s food culture alive and promote the ethnic dishes beyond just “Daal-Bhaat and Momo”.

Nikhil bootstrapped the entire venture himself. He handled all the interior and exterior work for the first restaurant entirely on his own along with a partner. In the early days, Nikhil and his partner would even deliver food orders personally to customers – that’s how hands-on he was with building up Bamey’s.

Over the next 5 years, Bamey’s became hugely popular for its authentic Nepali cuisine. In 2020, Nikhil opened a second, larger outlet in New Bel Road. But then the Covid lockdowns hit, forcing them to permanently shut down. At one point, Nikhil was on the verge of having to close that outlet as well.

But with the continued love and support from the people of Bengaluru, Bamey’s surged back stronger than ever. Monthly thakali sales crossed 7,000 plates. In 2023, Nikhil launched “Bamey’s Gastro Bar”, a new spacious restaurant located just 250m from the original spot.

Today, Nikhil has proven his doubters wrong. Through sheer passion and hard work, he has succeeded in introducing Bengaluru to the diversity of Nepali cuisine beyond just momos. His journey is a testament to how far determination and faith in one’s roots can take you.

In Nikhil’s own words: “Je Bhana Jaso Gara jata pani leijyau malai – Yo mann ta mero NEPALI HO!” – No matter where life takes me, my soul will always be Nepali.

Celebrating the Living Goddess of Nepal: A Tribute to Women’s Day

As we celebrate International Women’s Day, it’s essential to recognize and honor the remarkable women who hold significant cultural importance in various parts of the world.

One such extraordinary figure is the Living Goddess of Nepal, a symbol of divine feminine power and tradition.

The Living Goddess Tradition:
The Living Goddess, known as Kumari in Nepali, is a unique and revered tradition deeply rooted in Nepalese culture.

The Kumari is a young prepubescent girl selected from the Newar community of Kathmandu Valley, who is believed to be the earthly incarnation of the Hindu goddess Taleju. She is worshipped as a living deity and revered by both Hindus and Buddhists alike.

Selection Process:

The selection process for the Kumari is meticulous and steeped in ancient rituals. The chosen candidate must meet strict criteria, including possessing specific physical attributes and belonging to the Shakya caste.

Once selected, the Kumari undergoes an elaborate initiation ceremony known as the Gufa Pravesh, where she is secluded from her family and community and resides in the Kumari Ghar, or Living Goddess Temple, in Kathmandu Durbar Square.

Symbolism and Significance:

The Kumari symbolizes purity, wisdom, and divine power. She is regarded as a protector of the city and is consulted by devotees seeking blessings and guidance.

Her presence is believed to bring prosperity and good fortune to Nepal. However, with the onset of puberty, the Kumari’s divine status is relinquished, and she returns to her ordinary life, while a new Kumari is selected to assume the revered role.

The tradition of the Living Goddess dates back centuries and is an integral part of Nepal’s cultural heritage. It reflects the country’s rich religious diversity and the harmonious coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism.

The Kumari festival, known as Indra Jatra, is celebrated annually with great pomp and grandeur, attracting thousands of devotees and tourists from around the world.

While the Kumari herself embodies divine femininity, her selection process and the reverence she receives also serve as a testament to the importance of women in Nepalese society.

The tradition highlights the significance of empowering young girls and acknowledging their potential to become leaders and influencers.

As we honor women’s achievements and contributions on International Women’s Day, let us also pay homage to the Living Goddess of Nepal and the profound cultural legacy she represents.

The Kumari tradition serves as a reminder of the innate strength and divinity within every woman and the importance of preserving and celebrating our cultural heritage.

Happy Women’s Day!
